President Gordon B. Hinckley's Challenge and Promise

President Gordon B. Hinckley said in a

worldwide leadership training meeting:

“I am convinced there is no other organization anywhere to match the Relief Society of this Church.

If they will be UNITED and speak with ONE VOICE,

Their STRENGTH will be INCALCULABLE!”

RELIEF SOCIETY

“A Restoration of an Ancient Pattern”

Although the name may be modern date,

the institution is of ANCIENT ORIGIN.

We were told by our martyred prophet

that the same organization EXISTED

in the church ANCIENTLY.”

"The Constitution for a PERFECT LIFE"

Some years, ago, I read this by President Harold B. Lee. I fell in love with it..."The Constitution for a PERFECT LIFE". I am going to retype all my notes over the next few days...(LOTS OF INFORMATION) (smile)

Most of the doctrine and statements will be from President Lee's:
  • "Decisions for Successful Living" (1973) Pages 40-41, 44, 55-62
  • "Stand Ye in Holy Places" (1974) Pages 208-16
"In that matchless Sermon on the Mount, Jesus has given us EIGHT DISTINCT WAYS by which we might receive this kind of joy. Each of his declarations is begun by the word 'Blessed'. BLESSEDNESS is defined as being "higher than happiness". 'Happiness' comes from without and its dependent on circumstances; blessedness is an inward fountain of joy in the soul itself, which no outward circumstances can seriously affect.'"

SERMON ON THE MOUNT
Matthew 5:1-11

1. AND seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2. And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3. BLESSED ARE the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4. BLESSED ARE they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5. BLESSED ARE the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6. BLESSED ARE they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7. BLESSED ARE the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8. BLESSED ARE the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9. BLESSED ARE the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of god.
10. BLESSED ARE they which are persecuted for righteousness sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11. BLESSED ARE ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.

  1. I really like this Debbie. I've been having discussions with some of my boys lately on these topics. Talking about how those who "cause us grief" in life, are actually a blessing to us because they are "playing a part" which provides us an opportunity to grow. You don't have courage until you are faced with fear. You can't experience forgiveness until someone has offended you and given you something to forgive... etc.

Also, Daniel and I have been studying our founding fathers, government (as it was intended to operate), and constitution. I look forward to seeing more. :)
